In the suburbs of South Korea, a lady reported to Kritter Klub, a group of animal rescuers, that a couple of Golden Retrievers had been living in a drain pipe. She found them while she was taking a walk and had been feeding them ever since. However, they would only eat if she kept her distance.
The lady had reported them to the local animal control. Several rescue attempts failed because they could not get them out of the pipe. The Kritter Klub crew went down the ditch to investigate, but they found only dead-ends. They could not figure out where the dogs came from.
They asked people in the neighborhood if they knew the owner of the dogs, but no one seemed to recognize them. They were not listed on the missing dog list either. They had drawn a blank when they got a call that the dogs were spotted in a factory.
The crew rushed to the factory, and they found the two dogs peeping out of a storm drain. When they used a remote-controlled camera inside the drainpipe, they found out that it led to the large ditch where the dogs frequently stayed. The crew set up cameras inside the pipes, in the factory, and one overlooking the ditch. They found out that the dogs come out at night to explore then hide in another pipe until morning.
The Kritter Klub crew decided to rescue them because their health did not seem to be in good condition. Elaborate traps were put in place to prevent the dogs from escaping to the pipes. One of the dogs was wary and would not get out of the water pipe, so they had to flush her out with water.
They managed to catch the two dogs and the lady who had been feeding them was glad. She knew that they would have a better life from that time on. They were brought to the vet for a complete health check-up. Aside from the eye worms, they were perfectly healthy.
Three months after they were rescued, a family got interested in adopting them. They had to stay together because one of them was very emotionally dependent on the other one. She would get anxious when she’s separated from her friend.
Their new family named them Mango and Apple, and they felt instantly at ease with them. The whole family was looking forward to making memories with them.
