They said that imitation is a sincere form of flattery. But Butterball, the duck, does not seem to know that she’s a duck at all. She is not doing it to imitate, she is doing what the dogs are doing because she thinks that she’s a dog too!
Butterball drinks from the dog’s water bowl, and she also loves eating dog food. Katherine McClure would try to stop Butterball from doing so, but sometimes, she would get a few without being noticed by the family. She is one clever duck!
Katherine’s dogs Nellie and Dixie don’t mind though as they also bring Butterball for a walk with them. The first time, they thought she would walk for only a short distance with them. But to their surprise, Butterball walked with them throughout the entire thing and even walked back with them when they were gone.
Katherine has been rescuing animals for years, so all the animals in their possession are all rescues. When they got Butterball, she was covered with blood and was in the brink of death. They sent her to the vet and wanted to save her.
They are very thankful that this duck was saved and has gotten along with their animals. Though she dislikes other ducks, she is very fond of other animals. She might be following the dog’s footsteps who are very gentle with all the other animals.
Among all the animals, the dogs are the most gentle of them all. All the animals would come up to them anytime without fear. Maybe that’s why Butterball wants to be like them so badly.
Butterball wants to be part of the pack. Or maybe because there are so many of them that confusion happens at times. Dixie even tried to nest on the duck’s nest which was such a funny thing to watch.
