Pet owners often come up with unique names for their dogs. However, it is highly recommended to research it first. You’ll never know if it’s associated with someone infamous or not.

This is what happened to this new K-9 officer at Lake County’s Sheriff’s Office. The bloodhound which is ten weeks old got his photo posted last Friday morning.

Caption mentioned the office’s proud acknowledgment to the newest K-9 member. Rommel, the dog, will start his training soon to help find missing persons in the community. He is also expected to locate evidence and fugitives.

After the photo was posted, a netizen commented about the dog’s name. According to the social media user, Erwin Rommel is a general in World War II. He is called Desert Fox because he’s used to creating surprise attacks to his enemies.

Basically, the name “Rommel” is associated with a Nazi hero. The commenter added that it’s offending for him and he thinks for the dog as well. There are a lot of other heroes in America which may seem more suitable for the K-9 member.

Although it was mentioned that Rommel was the name of the dog handler’s childhood pet, LCSO decided to update the post which indicated that they changed the dog’s name from Rommel to “Scout.”

They also posted that Scout is a loyal public servant and is expected to serve the people of Lake County. Deputy Meintzschel, the handler renamed the pup as a sign of respect to the veterans of the country. He also thanked all those who commented about the issue which made them make necessary corrections.

A lot of people reacted with positive comments over the new bloodhound’s name. However, one particular person commented that the LCSO might want to recheck the handler. The sheriff’s office, however, seemed unnerved about it.

We want to extend our gratitude to LCSO for posting the updates about the new K-9 member.
