Being separated from our pets is genuinely heartbreaking. Losing them for years is so hard. Imagine what this dog and her owner went through over six long years of being apart from each other.

Thanks to a microchip, this pooch in El Paso finally got brought back to its owner after six long years of being apart.

Opal was spotted wandering in the Northeastern streets of El Paso. Six years ago, the teacup Pomeranian went missing from his home.

A stranger found Opal and took her to the Animal Services. There, the staff saw the microchip on the pup’s body. They immediately alerted the owner.

The staff immediately called the phone number indicated on the microchip. They know that there’s a slim chance that the owner will pick up because people often change their phone numbers. According to Myrna De La Torre, an employee on the shelter, they’re lucky that the owner answered the call.

After an hour, the owner arrived at the shelter. She hugged the pup she missed for a couple of years.

De La Torre shared how the owner can’t believe that she actually met with her pet again. When she saw the pup, she looked so happy.

Although it has been six years since Opal went missing, her owner still had all the documents hoping that the adorable pup will get reunited with her.

De La Torre added, the owner showed them all the papers and proof that she needs to convince them that she is indeed Opal’s owner.

The shelter witnessed a very touching reunion. It was really a good thing that Opal has been microchipped.

Animal Services reminded the public that microchipping pets is significant. You will never really know when your pets get lost or stolen. Microchips can help you avoid being separated from your beloved pets forever.
