The chief life-saving officer of an animal shelter, Donna Lochmann, was contacted regarding a dog wandering near a freeway. She had no idea how the pit bull would react and did not want to put the dog in more danger by startling him. The pit bull might run toward the freeway and get in an accident.
The dog was not only at risk because of the location. It was also cold outside — too cold for him to be outside for a long time.
Upon arriving at the scene, Lochmann found the dog cold and afraid. The pit bull was huddled against a fence with vehicles speeding by him.
Lochmann knew she had to work fast. She carefully walked toward the pooh, assessing his reaction, and was surprised that the dog seemed glad and grateful to see her.
The pit bull didn’t run away and even headed forward and began sniffing the rescuer. Upon realizing he was finally safe, the pooch rolled over for belly rubs.
Lochmann hugged the pit bull before bringing him with her toward her Jeep. The dog was friendly and sweet. The rescuer then named him Peterbilt, after a truck manufacturer, as semi-trailer trucks were driving past them.
Once inside the vehicle, Lochmann talked to the pit bull to calm his nerves. She also gave him pats on the head.
The rescuer brought Peterbilt to the vet clinic, where the staff took care of him. After that, the rescued dog was ready for foster care.
Not long after, Peterbilt went into a loving foster home. Before leaving the shelter, the dog kissed the staff member goodbye and headed out to begin a new life.
Currently, Peterbilt is loving his life in a new foster home. However, he is still searching for a forever home. The pit bull loves napping on his cozy bed and going on walks.
Lochmann believes Peterbilt will be able to find the perfect family for him soon. She is sure the pit bull will fit into a family who will love him.
