For years, numerous rescue organizations have worked hand in hand to end dog meat markets in Asia. Thousands of dogs, some even stolen from homes, end up butchered for their meat every year. There has been a lot of success in turning breeders into farmers, but a few still raise canines for consumption.
Fortunately for 20 young Golden Retrievers, they were saved from one of these illegal breeders and now have a better future.
Dedicated work
Golden Rescue South Florida is a dedicated and hardworking nonprofit animal charity organization that works to save dogs from the meat market. Kristine Minerva, the group’s coordinator, is very passionate about keeping canines from slaughterhouses.
When she heard there were 20 Golden Retrievers pups rescued from illegal breeders in China, she worked hard to get them to the US. She feared the canines may still be in danger. Kristine started working on their papers and talking to transportation companies. She also made sure the puppies complied with all requirements.
Obstacles
Even though Kristine worked everything out, they still encountered hiccups while transporting the young dogs to Miami. Their plane made a layover in Taiwan and had a 40-hour delay. The pups were not allowed outside their crates and became stressed and horrified.
Thankfully, after coordinating with the local animal organizations, they were able to get the young dogs access to water and food. Their rescue partners also made sure they would get their clearance right away. This helped shorten their delay. The pups were already in their crates for several days and had no chance to go out and relieve themselves.
Just before they left, local volunteers were allowed to clean the Golden Retrievers and their crates.
Five days after leaving China, their precious cargo arrived in Miami. Kristine and her team were relieved. They were delighted to finally get the rescue pups.
In just a few days, all of the pups moved in with their new families. Kristine ensured even before they arrived, the canines had a good home.
