Citaly Rodriguez and Isaac Barajas, two teenagers from L.A., were walking beside the spillway when they heard yelping and crying from the sewers underneath. The two went down to investigate and saw two dirty and scared dogs near the entrance of the sewers. They decided to keep the two dogs company until some help come in.

The teenagers called Hope for Paws, who rushed to the site upon receiving the call. The two rescuers were greeted by Isaac, who pointed out where the dogs were. Citaly was staying with the pups, both of whom turned out to be friendly, but at the same time anxious about the strangers around them.

Getting to know Winn and Dixie

To help calm the two dogs down, the rescuers crouched and gave them pieces of treats. The two were obviously very hungry as they didn’t hesitate to take them. Usually, stray dogs would be wary of humans and would keep as much distance as possible. They wouldn’t take food from their hands until they have built trust. But in this case, the hungry dogs ate the food directly from their hands.

The rescuers cautiously reached out and petted the dogs. They wanted to build a trusting relationship with them before taking them away. After spending some time talking and rubbing their fur, they decided to carry the dogs out of there. The two teenagers also helped in getting the pups up to the side road.

From the spillway, the dogs were taken to a vet for evaluation then they were given baths. The dogs, which they now named Winn and Dixie, were given a special bath as they had a flea infestation, and the strong smell of sewer clung to their fur. They were then sent to a foster home where they would be given love and care while waiting for a family to take them home.

It didn’t take long for them to find a forever home. With their friendly and sweet nature, a family instantly adored them. And what’s even more fantastic is that they were adopted together. Now the two dogs are happy and living with humans who would give them the love that they deserve.
