When residents of the town of Paradise in California heard that the devastating California Camp Fire was nearing their community, everyone became frantic and started leaving town. There was no time to prepare as the deadly wildfire was already near their area.
People rushed out, leaving their precious belongings behind. This included a senior lady named Andrea Gaylord. Neighbors and friends took her away so fast that she wasn’t able to take her two dogs, Madison and Miguel.
The aftermath
The Camp Fire, regarded as one of the deadliest in the history of California, ravaged more than 11,000 homes. many wildlife were killed and rendered homeless. Amazingly, Andrea’s dogs survived. But her house did not.
Because of the devastation left behind, the people of the community were not allowed to go back to their homes. There was still a lot of danger and tons of debris. The community had to be cleaned up and cleared before the people went home. Or what remained of it.
What Andrea did not know is that during all that time, her dog Madison was guarding the ruins of their home.
Waiting for mom
Not knowing what to do, the faithful dog patiently waited for her owner to come back for her. Rescue workers found her and Miguel by the burnt-down house and tried to take them to an animal shelter. Miguel went along, but Madison refused.
There was nothing the rescuers could do so they just provided her with food and water until their mom could finally go back. For almost a month, Madison patiently waited. She never budged from the area and would just sit there or walk around a bit. But she never strayed too far.
And when Andrea finally came back, she was astonished to learn about what Madison did. Although she was sad that their house was gone, she was also delighted that her dogs are fine.
