A Kansas City Chiefs player celebrated his Super Bowl victory by volunteering to help dogs in need. Derrick Nnadi, the defensive tackle playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, has announced that he will cover the adoption fees for more than a hundred dogs in Kansas City, Missouri’s no-kill shelter KC Pet Project.

According to Nnadi, he has always wanted a dog, but he didn’t have one as a child because his parents didn’t allow pets. This changed during his senior year of college when he adopted his first dog, Rocky. Rocky was very timid when Nnadi first got him. It made him consider how other animals, whether owned or in a shelter, maybe scared and alone.

Tori Fugate, the KC Pet Project’s chief communications officer, stated that the Derrick Nnadi Foundation approached them about working together last year. Fugate explained that Nnade is a huge animal lover who wanted to find a way to help dogs in the City.

They devised the plan of sponsoring a dog’s adoption fee for each Chiefs victory during the 2019-2020 season. And when they did win, everyone was overjoyed, not only for the team but also for the city’s shelter dogs, who now have better chances of finding their forever homes.

Every year, the non-profit takes care of over 10,000 animals, with approximately 30 new pets arriving at its open-admission, no-kill shelter every day. And Nnadi covering the adoption fees frees up funds for the KC Pet Project to provide medical care for those injured pets. The adoption fee is $150.

The community is ecstatic right now as a result of the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl victory in 50 years, and this is a heartwarming story to add to that euphoria. Fugate also stated that they make every effort to be present for every animal that comes to them and that they are humbled that Nnadi chose their organization to collaborate with.
