Dogs do their absolute best when trained for a particular job – this is the reason why most people love having dogs as partners or assistants in various fields. There are police dogs, therapy dogs, and dogs who work for farms and fields. Some dogs aid lawyers in easing the strain of stressful court proceedings on children and those experiencing mental issues.

Just last week, an emotional support therapy dog swore in for her duty at a Chicago state attorney’s office. The newest addition to the firm is an adorable two-year-old Black Labrador named Hatty. She looked pretty excited for her latest stint at court.

Just like the other employees, Hatty will work for eight hours daily, just like her human counterparts. In a typical day in court, Hatty’s presence proves to be a way to ease tension and strain for those who are part of a case. Her primary job is to be present and to give affection.

According to Hatty’s colleagues, the stress of a court hearing often takes a toll on people involved in the case. They are most concerned with victims who give their statements – particularly children and those experiencing mental health issues. Hatty makes sure she provides the emotional support these people badly need.

Hatty worked as a service dog before her stint at the state attorney’s office. She trained for more than a year by both experts and inmates. According to some legal staff, they witnessed how Hatty makes it easier for stressed individuals. She stands by their side. When she senses tension, she immediately gives them her paw, assuring them that everything is alright.

Attorney Kim Foxx of the Cook County State, who presided the said swearing-in last week, could not be happier to welcome Hatty to their family officially. Hatty is all too happy as she swore in; she even stood on her hind legs and placed a paw on the law book. Now Hatty is ready to provide all the emotional support she can give inside the courtroom!
