Concerned citizens from a neighborhood became worried when they saw an injured dog limping inside an industrial lot that is seldom used. They think that the dog probably slipped in the last time the gate was opened, which is rare. Not knowing when someone would come in next, they are concerned that the dog might not immediately get the medical attention that it needs.

They called Hope for Paws, a rescue organization based in Los Angeles for help. Two rescuers Lisa and JoAnn responded to the call and rushed to the site. From the fence, they saw the German Shepherd was wandering around inside the lot. They called the dog over, using food as an enticement.

Nowhere out

The dog, hungry and thirsty, quickly approached them and was fed through the wired fence. The dog ate and drank like there was no tomorrow. She was probably dehydrated and famished being locked in for several days now.

The rescuers also noticed a small gap in between the fence, so they tried to lure her out that way. But the gap was too thin for the dog. They looked for anyone with a ley that could help them open the gates to let the dog out. When they finally were able to call the property manager, he said that he would not be available until the next day. So they left the dog some food and water and came back later.

The next day they were finally able to get the dog out. But before they could leave, they noticed that the dog was limping, and her neck seemed to have an embedded collar. They took her then to a vet to have her checked out. There they discovered that there was no embedded collar, but she had a severe infection over where her collar used to be. She also had a broken paw.

After her treatment, they took the dog, now named Elsa, to a foster home. There she will stay until they can find an appropriate and loving family for her. In the meantime, Elsa is enjoying her new life.
