The rapidly spreading coronavirus disease has put a pause on dozens upon dozens of events and activities across the globe. This includes the Boston Marathon that most people look forward to every year. But while the race might have been postponed, a familiar face still attended the event this year to cheer on the racers in their homes.

Spencer, the adorable therapy dog, has been a regular spectator of the Boston Marathon for five years now. He would typically be seen standing by the sidelines while holding a “Boston Strong” flag in his mouth.

His mere presence in the race never fails to motivate the marathoners. So ever since his fur dad, Rich Powers, introduced him to the marathon, he had been a regular supporter and motivational mascot for the racers.

However, because of the ongoing pandemic, the Boston Marathon had been moved to a later date in September. This is in compliance with the “no mass gathering” policy to protect the health of both the racers and the spectators.

This didn’t stop Spencer to attend the race on its original date, though. With his fur sister, Penny, and their fur dad, the Golden Retriever once again stood by the sidelines of the racetrack and held his flags high. But this time, he had another sign for the racers, one that said that he would be seeing the marathoners in September.

Rich mentioned that he wanted to boost the spirits of the locals during these trying times. And by doing their little annual tradition, he felt a bit lighter and happier even for a short while.

Spencer and Penny’s photos that day immediately went viral, making it all the way to Twitter. To date, the images boast a whopping 69,000 likes and almost 7,000 retweets.

Rich also fills his Instagram page with various videos and pics of the duo’s daily shenanigans, hoping that their cuteness would somehow brighten their online fans’ day. Look at the adorable motivational pair here.
