Valentine’s Day 2018 was supposed to be a happy occasion at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida but it turned out to be a terribly sad and tragic day. On that day, a lone shooter killed 17 people and injured 17 more. The entire town was devastated, and recovery was slow. That is why a group of heroic dogs assisted staff and students in their recovery and return to normalcy.
The dogs that calmed the pupils received well-deserved credit in the school’s yearbook a year later.
The community was aware of the school’s integration of comfort animals. Everyone at the high school in Parkland, Florida recognized the significant contribution made by the canines who patiently waited on each student whenever they required reassurance or comfort. The community recognized that the dogs deserved the best praises and honor. That is why the school decided to include photos of the dogs in the yearbook.
The comfort dogs just stayed in the school’s courtyard, where anyone could pet and cuddle them. People would typically go there during lunch breaks and between classes. The dogs provided comfort so that the students may handle their worries and tension caused by trauma. The majority of people felt calmer after engaging with the dogs.
One that stood out was a therapy dog named Shooner. According to the students, he was the sweetest among them since he would sit and soothe everyone who petted and cuddled him. He never displayed any negative behavior toward anyone.
The dogs were donated by the Humane Society and other organizations for the benefit of the students, instructors, and staff. Each was exceptional in its own way. They exhibited excellent behavior as comfort dogs: they were quiet, well-mannered, and affectionate. Undoubtedly, the entire community showed them the love that they deserve.
To prepare the dogs for the yearbook photo shoot, they were groomed and taught to pose properly.
