Unlike most homeless dogs found on the streets, BB is a pitbull that has a severe problem with being overweight. She weighed 120 pounds, and she had a very high blood sugar level. Aside from that, she had ear, eye, and skin infections. Thankfully, a kind woman named Christy Stevens, the founder of a rescue group called hearts Alive Village Rescue, made it her mission to save the poor pooch.
A visit to a clinic confirmed the rescue group’s suspicion that BB wasn’t a start all her life. It was most likely that she was used for breeding, and when she got too old to get pregnant, she was dumped by her owners. Although she belonged to someone, she never felt the warmth and love of a family. That’s why she was distrusting of humans.
Calm presence
Like many dogs that had difficult pasts, BB was terrified when she arrived at the group’s facility. She constantly glared at anyone that stood in her line of sight. And if the distance between them got short, she would start growling.
As an experienced rescuer, Christy knew just exactly what she needed to do. Every day, she would sit near the dog, moving slowly, so she won’t startle her. She would create a calming presence so that the dog would get used to her. And amazingly, after a few days, BB slowly walked towards her and laid her head in the kind rescuer’s hands.
Transformation
After finally gaining the dog’s trust, Christy placed her on a special diet and regularly gave her exercise. With the guidance of a vet, she even gave her multiple doses of insulin. After a few months, BB got a dramatic transformation. She lost around a third of her weight, and her blood sugar levels dropped to normal.
Six months after Christy took a gamble on BB, a nice young man saw a video featuring the sweet pit bull, and he fell in love with her. And when they finally met, Christy knew that the man was the right one for BB.
The dog is usually scared of men, but with his new dad, she greeted him right away. It was sad for Christy to see BB leave, but she knew that she will now have her forever home.
